Fancy decorations in the house, fun and games, the smell of freshly baked cookies and a house filled with family members and laughter. This is how many of us remember festive seasons.

But not all of us share this memory. For widows and orphans who do not have a family, Hari Raya might seem like any other day to them. Not having a family to celebrate with can really leave a sense of longing.

Because of this, I often try to visit orphanages or old folk’s homes during the festive times. Perhaps the donations that I make or the time that I spend with them can make their days just a little brighter.

This Raya season, Mon Space has decided to cross boundaries with our love, and head to Indonesia with our charity efforts.

We organised a charity dinner (Majlis Buka Puasa Bersama Anak Yatim dan Janda), serving traditional Malay-styled dishes. It was open to all orphans and widows, so that everyone can have an opportunity to eat and be merry.

The night was delightful, with attendants happily feasting, talking, and laughing. Seeing all of this warmed my heart, and I knew that the trip to Indonesia was worth the effort.

We also prepared gifts and money packets for the widows and orphans. They were immensely grateful, reminding me of how my Muslim friends are always so warm and sincere.

Hopefully, this trip leaves happy memories for the children and women who attended. Perhaps one day, they will look back, be inspired, and do their part to help others too.

Lastly, I want to wish all my Muslim friends a great Hari Raya!

最后,趁着开斋节的来临,我想对所有穆斯林朋友说一声,开斋节快乐![/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
