Crossing borders fighting NCD is an outreached program that we have created for the communities around Asia, especially in South and South East Asia. This initiative was started with a goal to convert the inactive populations to be active, in-line with the World Health Organization Sustainable Development Goals (SDG) – to reduce physical inactivity by 15% by the year 2030.
The United Nations Summit on Sustainable Development in September 2015, recognises non-communicable diseases (NCDs) as a major challenge for sustainable development. With annual death rate of 41 million people, world leaders noted with grave concern the vicious cycle whereby NCDs and their risk factors worsen poverty, while poverty contributes to rising rates of NCDs, posing a threat to public health and economic and social development.
We have gathered that most of the people are well informed on the importance of exercise. However, they are still not doing it because they either do not know how to exercise or they have given up on exercising due to lack of results despite going through all the inconveniences.
Hence, we decided to share our Exercise Medicine Protocol to the world. It’s time for us to stop ignoring NCD!
Crossing borders fighting NCD have been designed to empower local community members. Together with the local Exercise Medicine Society, volunteers are identified and given workshop on our exercise medicine protocol.
These volunteers are assigned to their community and they are responsible to do physical fitness assessment, basic health screening and body fat measurement as well as conducting group exercise session. The volunteers will also monitor their group member to ensure exercise adherence and submit the data to their local Exercise Medicine Society which will then be presented in the annual International Scientific Committee Meeting on Exercise Medicine.
We have also sponsored simple exercise tool called TheraTube for the local Exercise Medicine Society to assist the volunteer in their exercise program.
Till date, we have successfully launched this program in Lahore, Pakistan and Hyderabad, India. Our next destination will be Philippines, Brunei and Indonesia. We hope these countries will be the catalyst of many more Crossing Borders Fighting NCD projects.
Together, let’s make a difference. Combating NCD starts with you and me.
Life inspiring life.
